About
What I do
Backend engineer with 6+ years across capital markets, customs, fashion-tech and heavy industry. I started with Java and Spring Boot on outsourced projects for the Indonesia Stock Exchange and a Free Trade Zone customs platform. Then I spent four years on Style Theory's Scala and Go microservices: logistics integrations, payments and vouchers, Kafka events, a GCP-to-AWS migration and the React SSR web. Now I design Go services end to end for a listed cement company: SSO, document automation with e-signatures and Indonesian Customs integration. I build the front end when a project needs it, and I back everything with tests that run against real infrastructure.
How I work
Engineering principles
- 01
Security lives in the details
Login checks take the same time whether the user exists or not. Passwords are pre-hashed before bcrypt, so its 72-byte limit is never hit. Tokens are opaque and single-use, refresh tokens rotate, and the number of device sessions is capped.
- 02
Tests run against real infrastructure
Integration tests start a real Postgres with testcontainers and run the real migrations. Each test is named after the rule it guards, and I don't change production code only to make it easier to test.
- 03
Every service has the same shape
Vertical slices (route → handler → service → store → sqlc), golang-migrate and JSON:API 1.1. I use this layout across five Go services, so a teammate who knows one already knows where everything is in the others.
- 04
Built for production from day one
Graceful shutdown, transactional outboxes, a recover in every goroutine, row locks where races are possible, request-ID logging, the version baked into the binary, and feature flags for risky integrations.
- 05
I own it end to end
I take a system from the domain rules through the API, the React screen and the Docker deploy, and I write the docs and release logbook so the next person can carry it on.
How I build now
AI-assisted, experience-driven
I now build with an AI pair (Claude, by Anthropic). I don't hand it the wheel. I hand it my flight hours: the architecture rules, security habits, testing standards and edge cases I learned the hard way. That lets it build apps quickly while keeping them robust, scalable, testable and secure.
My experience, written down
Every project has written rules: the architecture, the domain decisions and the conventions I applied at Style Theory and Cemindo. The AI works by them, so its output follows my standards, not a generic average.
Behaviour tests as the contract
Every agreed rule and edge case has a test that checks the outcome. Any change, mine or the AI's, has to keep them passing. That's what makes moving fast safe.
Reviewing like a tech lead
My title is still Software Developer. But with Claude beside me every day, the work feels like a tech lead's: reviewing code, thinking through architecture, product, edge cases and application flow.
Not dependent on it
If AI were taken away tomorrow, I could still build every one of these systems myself. Just not at ZX-4RR speed.
AI makes me faster. My experience is what keeps it right.
“However long your experience, a human can still lose memory and knowledge, especially a brain that never rests and keeps switching context. So I write down what I know: for my team, for my AI, and for future me.”

What people say
“Superb team player !! I'm very happy that I had a chance to be able to work together with him and collaborating on several projects. I'm really impressed by his sense of ownership and commitment, as he always strive to deliver any projects within timeline. He's also one of those people who can help set up the mood and bring positive vibes to the team, and I strongly believe that wherever he goes, he definitely would be an asset to the team.”
“I used to be his senior — the one guiding him early in his journey. But over time, he grew so quickly and consistently that I now see him as an equal. Hanif is a fast learner with sharp instincts, the kind of person who asks the right questions and always brings thoughtful insights to the table. Working and growing alongside him has been both inspiring and rewarding. In fact, these days, there's a lot I've come to learn from him — and that's a testament to the kind of engineer and teammate he's become.”
“Hanif is a real "one for all" (can do everything) kind of engineer, and I mean that in the best way. One minute he's our website wizard, making everything look good and work intuitively for our customers. The next, he's deep in the backend, tackling tough challenges with Scala or Golang. And if we need to plug in a new tool? Hanif is the one who figures it out and makes it all work together seamlessly. He's the reason our website runs so well, and it's incredible to see him handle it all. He's that reliable and that good.”
“Hanif is a great collague at work. He is fast learner with broad knowledge and willing to learn with passion. With his ability to work on any environment he's in I would really recommend him to work with.”
“so proud working with you Hanif, a critical thinker and humble engineer. And I think it should not only be about hard skills, but also soft skills should be prioritized to be able to improve into a better software developer like you. I hope we can work together again !”
“Hanif is a joy to work with — always bringing positive energy to the team and making the atmosphere light and enjoyable. He's talented in both backend and frontend development, and he's always open to feedback. What really stands out is how quickly and effectively he tackles bugs, turning potential blockers into smooth solutions. Working with Hanif means getting things done while keeping the team spirit high.”
“Hanif is genuinely a humble person through his work he always happen to finish it with a great result and good manner. He also a soft kindhearted person with his communication and action. He doesn't bother to help his teamates and give a great input through discussion. His activeness is one of his authenticity”
“Deliver the task on time, eager to take on new challenges even though outside of his expertise. Appreciate his effort, and recommend him”
“mas Hanif is a humorous person, also a great colleague. He even helped me with things outside of work. He is also a committed person and always delivers his tasks on time.”
Career
Experience
Application Developer (Backend) · PT Cemindo Gemilang Tbk (Semen Merah Putih)
The internal software house of a publicly listed cement company. I design and build the backend services (and often their front ends) for plant operations, safety, customs, company documents and management reporting.
Software Engineer II · Style Theory
A fashion rental subscription platform in Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia. I worked full stack across Scala Lagom and Go microservices, the GraphQL gateway, the React SSR customer web and the internal ops apps.
Junior Backend Developer · Padepokan 79
Outsourced backend developer, starting with the Java/Spring bootcamp. Placed at Style Theory (Aug 2021 – Aug 2022), the Indonesia Stock Exchange and a Free Trade Zone customs platform.
Frontend Developer (freelance) · Dumons Coating
Websites for an automotive coating brand and its Hörnet product lineup.
Beyond the code
A bit about me
Born at the tail end of Gen Y
I grew up alongside the internet, and I'm still curious about how all of it works.
A loyal comrade
I stay loyal to managers who are mature and grown-up.
Unpredictable
I'm unpredictable, and that keeps things interesting.
Java at heart, Go in practice
Java is my favourite language, yet it has rarely been the language my jobs needed. When I build something from zero I pick Go, because it's mature and stays out of the way.
Never done learning
I always feel there's more I don't know. That's why I still practise algorithms, Dijkstra included.
